A downloadable game

"The best gaming experience that 1989 has to offer!"

               —J. D. Salinger

Do you know how to play Minesweeper? Probably not. I don't either, but here's the deets:

Left-click to uncover a tile: try to uncover all of the tiles without revealing a bomb; uncovering a bomb will blow the meat off of your round little face :( The first tile will never hide a bomb so there is no chance that you will lose right away (you will immediately lose on your next click).

Right-click to place a flag; this marks a tile as a suspected bomb and locks the tile keeping it from being uncovered as you randomly click around the board, with no regard for the rules, while on that sigma-male grindset.

The numbers that appear under some of the uncovered tiles represent the number of bombs adjacent to that space (including diagonally) and are used to help you determine which tile contains a bomb.

Click the gem to continue after winning; click the face (or skull) to reset the game.

Hints can be used only three times; clicking the hint button will show the location of a single bomb at random and it may reveal a bomb that is already known, but that's what you get for using the hint button.

F4 will toggle full-screen mode.

Let me know if the font that displays the level and number of remaining hints is messed up.

Version 2:

-Hints will now reveal all bombs.

-Hints now remain and fade as more tiles are uncovered.

-Placing a flag will remove all hints.

-Pickups may appear when you uncover tiles; frequency is determined by how many mines are adjacent to the tile. Extra hints, gems, and lighning bolts are available.

-The game can be paused with the spacebar.

-Adaptive difficulty added. Overall difficulty is based on whether or not you use hints. Higher difficulty means more mines.

-A scoring system has been added; using hints and flags will decrease your score.

-You can now safely uncover a tile that contains a mine by collecting a lightning bolt and clicking the suspected tile. The cursor will spark to indicate that a lightning bolt is active.

Version 2.1:

-Added skull pickup: destroys all flagged tiles.

Hi, I tried your game and I really liked it, I really like how you used my animations and they look very good in the game. But there doesn't seem to be an option to change the difficulty to make the game more difficult, in my opinion there would be a procedural difficulty mode where at each level it becomes more complicated, both the size of the grid and the number of mines increases. Keep going 👍

(1 edit)

No I actually have a new version, but the difficulty is adaptive based on how many hints you use. Also, as you progress the difficulty goes up as well; it's capped at 64 so you won't be able to have a level harder than that.
